Marathon

In October, 2009 the world premiere of Marathon, which de Fréine wrote in association with Biju Viswanath, took place during the New York International Film Festival, scooping awards for best screenplay and best cinematography.

Lorg / Quest

Lorg / Quest is a short film, based on a poem by Celia de Fréine in which memories are evoked when she returns to the lake where she spent her childhood summers.

It was screened at the Irish Film Institute in Dublin as part of the Imram Festival of Literature 2007 and at the Atlanta Indo-American Film Festival 2008.

 

Seal / Sojourn

Seal / Sojourn premiered at the New Jersey Independent South Asian Cine Festival in 2008 and was screened at the Atlanta Indo-American Film Festival in the same year.

The rugged landscape of Connemara provides the setting for this film which charts a day in the life of a young woman. As the day evolves, she is faced with many challenges. Haunted by her past and dreams of her future, she is still hopeful at the end of the day.



Cluiche / Game

Based on a poem by Celia de Fréine ‘Cluiche’ shows three children at play. The absurdity of their actions reminds the poet of how her grandfather played chess between fights on the battlefield.

Cluiche / Game premiered at the Ranelagh Minicinefest 2008.





Beatha / Life

While the long summer days may seem tedious to a young boy, they will pass all too quickly.





Rian / Trace

Rian / Trace tells the story of how an elderly man returns to Ireland to die but finds hope when he least expects it. Rian / Trace was given the award for best international narrative short at the New York International Film Festival in 2010.
